Description
This image, Rig Floor, proves there is so much beauty to find in the West Texas Oilfield. Maybe getting a shot upclose right in the action. Whether it is the amazing sky or the rustic colors of time passing you can find it around every corner. Some of my favorite discoveries when I’m out doing freelance work are often locations others drive by. Places people pass without stopping to take it in. The everyday places and everyday scenery in its perfect simplicity. Often the inspiration is the colors of the sky or contrast of soft and hard, industrial, surfaces. Textures and shadows that play off the light on certain objects. As well as the changes in the weather that tend to lend an amazing spectacle.
First, the mind starts to imagine the stories that could be told by each piece of equipment. Secondly, the structures and design of every different aspect of the industry, each having a specific purpose. Somethings are tried and true. However, others, though still functional. have been replaced by more modern design. Finally, there are the stories that each person who answers the call to work have to tell. Those who show up no matter what the weather has in store. The men and women who have seen the changes over time. In each photograph, like Rig Floor, I try to capture the respect I have for the industry and its people, that work day and night upclose right in the action. Furthermore, I strive to recreate the vibrancy and energy that I am lucky enough to see. Often, as vivid as it is when I close my eyes and remember the feeling that inspires each shot.
